Course Information

This course will offer a simple introduction to reading some Bible texts from the New Testament in the light of Mimetic theory. The aim will be to show participants how they can easily become just such readers of the New Testament text themselves. Each session will focus on a particular text, and will not need more preparation than having read the chosen text prior to the session. We will conclude with a synthetic session bringing out what we have learned.

How Courses Work

All of our courses are offered via online live attendance (using free webinar software, for which we provide a link). Each course is six weeks long, meeting online once a week on the same day at the same time. The weekly sessions run 90 minutes: 45 minutes for presentation and 45 minutes for Q&R. A maximum of 15 students will be randomly selected to participate in the Q&R sessions (system-generated). If a student misses a course session, the talk/lecture will still be available online for 60 days, but the live chat room interaction will not be available.

Live Class Dates

The course begins April 20, 2017 and runs weekly at 12PM EST (Noon). The live class dates are as follows:
  • Apr 20 – Session 1
  • Apr 27 – Session 2
  • May 4 – Session 3
  • May 11 – Session 4
  • May 18 – Session 5
  • May 25 – Session 6

About The Instructor

James Alison is a Catholic priest and theologian. He is known as one of the students of the thought of René Girard who has developed that thought’s fecundity for Catholic theology, as well as for his readings of the texts of Scripture. James is also known for his attempts to promote the spiritual and mental well-being of Gay and Lesbian believers in the face of the cloud of mendacity which the authorities of his own Church, among others, allow to hang over the matter. His most recent published work is the program of introduction to the Christian Faith for adults, in both film and text, called Jesus the Forgiving Victim. When he is not traveling the world teaching and preaching, James lives in Madrid, Spain, with his son Luiz Felipe, and Luiz’s French bulldog, Nicholas.
